The Last Supper

I found out, while looking up something completely different*, that the Last Supper apparently took place on a Thursday night, which maybe explains Jesus' rather wry smile in the picture.

"This is fun," he's thinking, "But it's a work day tomorrow, there's a lot on, and I'm just not sure I'm going to get everything done".

He did, of course. Jesus was aces!

UPDATE: Dave has suggested that in the interests of free speech I do something as equivalently amusing (as in 'not particularly') about say... Mister TP Mohammed. Dave is clearly trying to stir up some kind of friction between the two great religions of this world, as part of some dark plan. Bad Dave, I will not fall for your tricksy ways. But it is a fair point. I do heartily approve of the Jesus though, and like Maude, would probably have a bit of a crush on him if we ever were to meet, just for the record.

Also, yes, Green Wing 1 repeats start Monday night at 11. Woo hoo!

* Party planning.

Well it HAD to be a Thursday, obviously, because he had to die the next day, so he could rise again on Easter Sunday as scheduled.

Otherwise we'd be cracking open our Easter Eggs on Wednesday or something, which would be All Wrong.

As the religious authority here, I endorse what spinsterella said.

How have you lived this long and never heard of Maundy Thursday? Or, presumably, Good Friday?

Of course, with the Sabbath starting Friday sunset, Thursday evening is really like Friday evening to gentiles.

do you think jesus liked marmite? i do.

I'm aware of them as days of the week that are in some way a bit more superheroic than other days, but as to what Thursday (Maundy) and Friday (Good) are really all about, I'm afraid I have only the faintest idea. Sadly they break down to That Pancake Day and All The Other Ones.

Methodist upbringing you see. They don't go in for special days, apart from Harvest Festival for some reason. In fact, now I think about it, it may have been some weird pagan subsect loosely disguised as Christianity.

Add to this me only just working out what iambic pentameter is, and you can come to one of two conclusions. Either a) Falmouth Comprehensive was/is really quite poor or b) I spent my entire time in education thinking about girls and the best way to fight monsters and didn't really take much else in.

Jesus definitely would have liked marmite. Also prawn cocktail crisps. And Green Wing - thought the disciples probably wouldn't have got it.

James, Christianity itself is essentially Pagan ritual cleverly re-packaged. Take the egg, for example. A symbol of re-birth and renewal (Spring following Winter and all that) or symbolic of the stone at the mouth of the tomb? When you think about it, the early Christians were also the first spin-doctors.

P.S PLEASE don't be offended Dave (or anyone else for that matter)

P.P.S Why were you looking up party planning. Are you planning a career change as a society host?

P.P.P.S Have you seen the Green Wing spread in the new Radio Times? (Of course you have, silly me!)

I was looking up party planning for a top secret project for a comedic lady. I'm contributing stuff to her stage show, unless the stuff I'm contributing turns out to be rubbish, in which case I won't be.

I have seen the GW spread in the RT. There's a lot more publicity for the second series, which is a bit scary frankly. Ah well.

Ah well, Methodist, say no more. Although I do believe even Methodist normally celebrate Easter.

What was so Good about the Friday if he was scheduled to die then? Poor guy must have thought it was a pretty BAD Friday!

Dave said...

In early English the word 'good' meant 'holy'.

See what happens when you start putting up religious images?

Perhaps, in the interests of balance and free speech, you could print a picture of the Prophet Mohhamed tomorrow...

...maybe a satirical cartoon?

In the past two days I've seen GW trailers in the cinema and ads on tube trains. It's everywhere. Is it scheduled to be shown on a Thursday too? That would be a scary coincidence.

Thought about doing an amusing cartoon about the prophet Mohammed: still thinking about it.

It's a tricky one.
