Ouch

Boing Boing has a number of links to Stephen Colbert's speech at the White House press corps dinner, most of which takes place in a magnificently uncomfortable silence. I wasn't sure how far Colbert could take his faux right wing talk show character, but this would seem to be one of those 'we may never get this chance again, so fuck it' moments.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think Stephen Colbert might be God.

saw a snipet of this on the news yesterday. so damn funny.

This is absolutely incredible. I can't believe he wasn't just snipered off the podium by security.

I suspect it was one of those things where no-one could quite take in what he was saying...

Definately, the response from the audience seemed to be more shocked gasps than timid laughter, I think they were also trying desperately not to be seen laughing at his jokes! It was a fine half hour from Stephen Colbert...going straight for the comedy jugular!

PS after all those angry comments about last weeks Green Wing I think we all know why you chose that weekend to "go away" huh James [wink wink]!!!! It was very sensible to run from the mob

james henry said...

Well I didn't read them as 'angry' so much as 'passionate' - but blimey, if they though episode five had a lot going on...

Anonymous said...

haha yes passionate is right! The hardcore Green Wing fans are boiling over with frustration!!!!!!!

...and of course we all know its only going to get worse! Falmouth may be filled with armies of disgruntled women if you lot don't let Mac and Caroline get together soon! (Personally I hope you've been subversive and let Guy get the girl!) Oooooooo the six month break between episodes 8 and 9 is going to be a killer.

Well done you exceedingly clever people you have created a drug in sitcom form!

Six months?! Meh.

Oh well. I guess I'll have Lost to keep me going for a bit. Actually, that will probably just tip me over the edge what with all the no answers.

I can vouch that my comment was indeed written in passion (not quite 'in the heat of' - although admittedly Steve's suddenly appearing unnervingly sexy), rather than anger.

Lost will inevitably tip people over the edge. Its one of those irritating shows where discussions surrounding it are more interesting than the actual onscreen action. So, sort of like Big Brother but with less clean people. Actually no. Despite a lack of running water, the Lost characters are far more palatable.

HaHa! I do love the look on Bush's face as he hears '...Tonight...No-one is safe...'

*wipes away tear*

Ohhhh I know Aimee, a bare foot Steve was riddiculously sexy. He's a special man, guys never usually have attractive feet!

Stephen Mangan...soon to be a foot fetishists favourite across the globe!

help help help!

damn sky plus stopped recording as Caroline said 'ok one kiss, no tongues'.

WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?

(I'd like to think Mac burst in, just in time, and revealed that the child had been hired by Holly to put a spanner in the works, esp as he looked much older than 4, when they supposedly split)

james henry said...

I can't remember, can someone help her out?

Are you even kidding? Flossie, dearest sweetheart, I'm going to have to say that sadly what you were hoping for did NOT happen. Quite the opposite. Well, the opposite of what Caroline just said before your SkyPlus fucked you royally anyway.
Any guesses to what my cryptic answer suggests? It involved Steven Mangan looking tender yet powerfully sexy at the same time. Uh huh,. Ph-woar.

I think my SkyPlus must be infinitely superior as it even went on to tape the first minute and a half of My Name Is Earl. That was actually annoying though, as forgot to record it properly, so that minute and a half was all I saw.

flossie said...

Thanking you. I think.

On the minute and a half front, I'm currently recording the early ER's being shown on More 4 in the afternoons. Every day I get the last minute and a half of Hill Street Blues, which gives me just enough to try and work out what's happened in the episode.

(London's not as glamorous as we make out you know. This counts as high entertainment for me)

Aimee you forgot to cryptically mention Guy's cheeky thumbs up as they sank onto the floor!!!!!! Poor Flossie you missed the best bit of the episode (ooooo I so want Caroline to end up with Guy)! Hopefully they wont make us wait 18 months to get the DVD this time! Grrrrrrrr

I cannot deny that Stephen Mangan looked VERY gorgeous at the end of the episode BUT...are we all forgetting how bloody long we've been wanting Guy and Caroline to get together?! (Or is that just me...?!)

There are plenty of Guy/Caroline shippers out there, but I'm pretty sure there are more in favour of Mac/Caroline. I'm of the latter, and I have to confess to almost chucking my remote control across the room at the end of episode 5. *ahem* I'm not involved at all... No, no.

flossie said...

Oh I'm with you, anon. (are you one person with several thoughts, or several mysterious people?)

At the risk of turning James' blog into the GW forum, I have to say I'm in the Mac/Caroline camp. A tribute to fine characterisation and acting as I've never found J R-T very attractive but my other half says I simper whenever he and Caroline have a 'moment'. They MUST get together. Though I sense the acupuncturist is going to reappear...

Squarah said...

Ha ha, I left that message because I couldn't remember my sign in details (brain was a bit mushy yesterday!) but I can't claim all anon messages! Unfortunately I think you are right and that acupuncturist was looking worryingly keen! GAH!

Hi flossie, that last anon comment was me. I'm afraid it was just the one comment, though - I'm not capable of mutliple thoughts ;)

Hey I'm the Caroline/Guy fan, although deep down I'll be just as dissapointed as you guys if Mr Henry et al dont let Mac and Caro get together! Guy is just an entertaining diversion. I'm anonymous cos I dont have a blog....

Vicki

PS Sorry James for hijacking your always entertaining blog with Green Wing talk but it is your fault for writing the stuff!!!!!

Thanks for the Colbert links I have a new respect for the man
