Dead Set: Episode One

It does say something that the bits I was going 'oooh', and closing my eyes at were the opening scenes of straight Big Brother stuff: contestants in the diary room, and people outside chanting stuff and holding up signs and so on. I was really quite happy to watch properly the moment the zombies turned up. Anyway, I thought it was jolly good.

'Survivors' starts fairly soon as well.

Worth watching just for seeing Davina getting her throat ripped out.

Anyway, it'll take ages for the zombies to reach Cornwall - you know what the trains are like...

I thought it was brill. Proper good telly. I hope Kevin Eldon saves the day and kills all the zombies.

On E4, so will be available on 4 On Demand (if you have a PC). I think the DVD comes out almost straight away, as well.

Jayne - you are a MARVEL.

Verification is sicoxite. Sounds like a Doctor Who alien.

So true, despite the fact that I was imagining it.

Anyhow, I have to say that despite some good bits I had problems with Dead Set. No real story arc, sprinting zombies (sprinting! please stop it right now) and no real resolution. Couldn't make up its mind if it wanted to be full blown horror or comic horror and achieved neither. In my humble(ish) opinion of course.

Am off to watch some Romero and possible Shaun of the Dead to restore my faith.

I think the trick is to find the right type of zombie for the right occasion. And then accessorise appropriately.

I know Charlie Brooker was doing a lot of interviews playing down the comedy aspect, so I think that side of it may have been oversold (although I did think there were a lot of funny bits).

Zombies who can run a 4 minute mile are never, ever right whatever accessories they've got. Although I'd quite like to see one of them try it in a pair of Jimmy Choos.
