I love thee more than Ross loved Rachel,
More than Joey loved a date who'll....
More than Fibonacci loved his Series,
More than Stephen Fry loves interesting queries*
More than Warcraft Trolls love saying 'Mon',
More than Poliakoff likes to go on. And on. And on.
More than Dave loves games of cricket,
Or Alan Titchmarsh loves thinning thicket(s),
More than Yentob loves writers,
(but that's not difficult)
More than I love D&D all-nighters,
(which is saying something)
More than Patroclus likes Pictish,
More than I like making up characters who are therefore ficti.... tious.
More than Batman loves crime-solving,
More than religious fundamentalists hate things evolving,
O New Coffee Mug, I Love Thee So.
*I don't mean that anti-gayually, it's a reference to QI. Also, did you know the set for QI was laid out according to the Golden Section, as mentioned on Jonathon Paul Green's blog? I didn't but I like knowing that now.
Ooh. My name in a poem by a famous writer.
ReplyDeleteI may have to have that mentioned in my obituary.
Nice mug, by the way.
if you wanted something to rhyme with Titchmarsh's thickets, you could have said 'Dave loves taking wickets'.
ReplyDeleteBut then people would have to understand something about cricket, and know that I like bowling.
As you were then.
Bravo.
ReplyDeleteNice mug.
I...my...wow.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will not be desecrating this holy chalice with anything so base as mere Maxwell House.
Serendipitous verification: rnojo, no more than a minor kern away from mojo.
Only freshly-ground coffee and the occasional peppermint teabag have touched my newly purchased Goblet O'Wonder. And if anyone else tries to touch it, I will kill them. Literally kill them.
ReplyDelete*tenderly kisses mug*
I have to say, that is a very handsome mug indeed. If I had one like it, I would have to refurnish my whole flat to go with it.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very lovely mug.
ReplyDelete(And people laughed at me for writing an Ode to my winter coat. Tcha! They just don't understand the wonder of A Perfect Thing.)
Where's it from? (It is indeed lovely.)
ReplyDeleteFrom a shop in Falmouth.
ReplyDeleteMore usefully, but probably not that usefully, it has the words 'FREVD' and 'Renaissance' on the base.
To the interweb!
I am a Google genius.
ReplyDeleteWell done Patch - there's a reverse black-on-white one as well, which I may go back for. Mmm... patterns....
ReplyDeleteReally?
ReplyDeleteThat mug?
Are you sure?
ok then....
Say that again.
ReplyDeleteI dare you.

ReplyDelete*runs away*
I think the mug turned up in a dream of mine last night. Spooky. I think I was even drinking from it (sorry!).
ReplyDeleteSurly - harrumph, quite frankly.
ReplyDeleteJohanna - quite understandable, it is after all, the Mug of Dreams, and could quite conceivably have magical powers. As long as you washed it up afterwards, no harm done.
Wow, that is one loved mug! I would laugh, but instead shall admit I have passion for a certain mug myself ;o)
ReplyDelete(came via Dave :o))
Love it. Would match nicely my Marimekko- bags pattern.
ReplyDeleteExcellent taste you've got :)
*considers Hulking Out with fury at the 'girlie mug' insinuation*
ReplyDelete*decides this to be a fair comment, puts shirt back on*
Well, I think it's a nice mug.
ReplyDeletethe most comments on the whole page and it's on a post about a mug.
ReplyDeleteP.S that is a brilliant mug maybe you should put another one in storage incase that one is broken or stolen by an obese minature pony
It is a nice mug. I'm actually just some random annonamous blogger who found the poem based on a search for Fibonacci. Based on the tenuous connection of Fib and being a WoW player with D&D roots, I'm now going to share a deeply personal detail: I have a favorite mug too. Except mine is fat, and engraved with chunky brown owls on a branch.
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful poem...
